S6

Flow

Half kneel holding the WAV with an overhand grip at the outer bands. Reach your arms forward over your knees. Feel the ground through your back shin and front foot with your toes spread. Hinge at your hips to lower the WAV and your body as one unit towards the floor. Return to upright, moving from your hips as you lift the WAV and your trunk. On the next lift, remain upright and rotate your pelvis open towards the back leg while slightly tipping the WAV back towards the ground. Spiral and rotate your pelvis in the opposite direction bringing the WAV across your body and slightly tipping it towards the ground.

Focus

Foster dynamic mechanical integration of the foot in a closed chain sequence functional for gait patterning. Emphasis is on interplay of foot to ascending structures with consideration of descending ground force application and distribution. This utilizes the S1-S5 movement principles.

Cues

VERBAL: Stay grounded through your foot to sense the stability and power in your hip and trunk.

BE MINDFUL: That your whole front foot - big toe, little toe, inside and outside of the heel - feeling equally grounded. * Does the quality of your foot contact with the ground stay consistent as the WAV flows around you? * Not to side-bend your torso and have the liquid complete its movement before your pelvis.

WAV INTERACTION: Feel your points of contact with the ground emphasized by the shifting weight of WAV. Listen to the sound of the WAV for insights about your true positioning. * Start calm and quiet. Move to smooth flow and soft sounds.

Common Compensations

  • Breath Hold/Valsalva
  • Decentration - Pelvic Region
  • Aberrant Weight Shifting
  • Decentration - Plantar Region

Modifications

AMPLIFY: Rise from half kneeling to lunge and rotate.

MINIFY: Arms at side with WAV under front leg.
